Saint-Rémy-de-Provence · June 1889
You begin in Vincent’s room at the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, at the barred window the painting grew from. Go down past the walled wheat field and the cypress into the village, where every door opens. Eleven stars have fallen into the streets and fields. Find each one and it goes back to its place in the sky.
“I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.”Vincent to Theo, September 1888
The village waits.
All eleven stars are back where Vincent put them. The morning star is the last to fade.
“This morning I saw the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big.”Vincent to Theo, June 1889
